I think my social media posts and blogs have been a bit sappy lately, and this is probably going to be another one, but with Thanksgiving just days away I can't help but reflect on how much I have to be thankful for. My little business has grown beyond imagination this past year and I cannot express my appreciation enough for all the families that have trusted me with their stories like this one. After I delivered this session this sweet momma left this review on google for me:
"My husband and I used Rachel to take family photos of us and our 10 month old at a local park. From the day I first contacted her, she promptly responded to my questions about what to expect, etc. On the day of the shoot, she was super accommodating and made us feel comfortable. The best part was what she captured in her pictures - the details and emotion that I didn't see on other photographers' websites. I'm not exaggerating when I say I teared up seeing the photos and will treasure them forever. She definitely has a gift and was such a pleasure to work with - we will definitely be calling her again!"
I've thought a lot about her words in the days since, especially her comments on the details and emotion that I captured for them. Like most photographers, my style has changed since I very first started. Even more so I would say that my "eye" has changed and the way I see things, the way I see families. When I started photography I thought I needed to have all these different poses and tricks to get kids to look at the camera and smile, and while I still incorporate some of that, mostly I just want to capture families being families. Playing, snuggling, spending time together. The biggest change I think came to my photography after having my own son. That desire to capture all the details, all the little in-between moments for my clients, stems from my own desire to capture that with my son. Of all my worldly possessions, there are none that I value more highly than our photographs. And when families choose me as their photographer, it's not lost on me that I am being entrusted to create treasured keepsakes. So thanks again to this family, and to all the families that have chosen me to document their moments.
