This is the second blog in my Mother's Day series featuring fellow Mompreneurs! If you missed the first one from last week, you can read here about Leighan and what it looks like to her to be a wife, mother, and entrepreneur all wrapped up in one! Also if you entered her giveaway be sure to check out her social media to see if you won! Now on to Elle and her and her husband's business, Opal Design Shop! She's also giving away the the most amazing print, so be sure to read to the bottom to see how to win!
Tell us a little bit about your business. Where did the name come from?
The name of our company actually was inspired back in 2009 when my husband started his own screen printing and design business. That company was Opal Clothing. We decided to keep that dream alive by naming our current company Opal Design Shop.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The thought of starting a business has always been on my mind. I had put it off for some time now. I used to work full time as a nurse and didn't want to add anything to my plate. Since I have been staying at home with my daughter Clara I had felt more of a tug to start something and run it out of our home. My husband is super creative and talented so his talent also inspired me and got me thinking of what we could make that people would actually want to purchase.
What does getting to be a mompreneur mean to you?
It means being able to create and dream with my family. To have our daughter and future kiddos grow up in a house that likes to make and create.
What's the best part and the worst part of working from home and for yourself?
I haven't been at it for long, so maybe I am in the honeymoon stage. Most things are pretty positive at this point. The best part is being able to work together at home with my husband and make beautiful things for people.
What other moms have been influential to you as you pursue your business? How did they shape your business?
After reading the Magnolia Story I felt super inspired and influenced by Joanna Gaines and how she balances being an awesome mom and wife, meanwhile embracing her creativity through their family business.
What do you and your daughter like to do in your free time?
Clara and I love being outside. Going on runs, taking walks at the dog park with our Aussie, Willow.
How do you balance life and work? Any tips for other mompreneurs just getting started?
I think the biggest thing in balancing it all is including the babies in the work. When I'm working on our signs I always have Clara nearby and she loves to hang out and watch.
