Teething baby tips + Nuby giveaway || DC lifestyle photographer
If you've been following along on my Instagram you know we were in teething hell for what felt like ever. Those first couple of teeth are the worst I think, and though Cantor dealt with it like a champ, there were still struggles! Mainly crankiness and lack of sleep all around. When those little devils finally poked through, he was up for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. It was rough. It was like those first few weeks with a newborn where you're staring bleary-eyed at your husband over a cup of coffee, and wondering at exactly what point it is people die from sleep exhaustion. Ok, maybe it wasn't quite that bad, but I was used to sleeping longer stretches at night at this point! Yes, that's right, longer stretches. My kid still doesn't sleep through the night, but I don't want to talk about it. Unless you know how to get him to sleep and then TELL ME YOUR WAYS. But this post isn't about our lack of sleep, it's about teething! So here are two of my FAVORITE items to help you survive those first teeth:
A teething necklace. I purchased one early on before Cantor was even teething. They are of course fabulous for babies to gnaw on, but they're also great for nursing distracted babies. It gives them something to look at and grab, that doesn't involve them constantly popping off to look around the room. I also wear Cantor a lot when I'm out running errands and wearing the necklace helps to keep those little hands busy and not reaching out to grab any and everything! Basically, it's just an all around helpful item to have. Living in an apartment, I've been all about only purchasing must have items to keep down the excess. A teething necklace is an absolute must have as far as I'm concerned!
The second must have item is a mesh feeder. Once your little one starts solids putting a piece of frozen fruit in it can really cheer your grumpy baby up. The fruit is sweet and cooling to the gums. I don't know if it gets much better to a teething baby. Here we gave Cantor some frozen peaches. His first time as you can tell by his face! He wasn't sure at first, but quickly decided it was delicious and couldn't get enough of it! It's a trick I learned when I used to nanny. When nothing else would settle a cranky baby, out came the mesh feeder and frozen fruit! You can use any fruit, but some good options are mangos, pineapples and of course peaches!
Full disclosure, Nuby sent me these fabulous products, but the opinions are my own.
